Andrew Schulz is joining the cast of Universal's Miami Vice '85, the Joseph Kosinski-directed reboot starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler. Deadline first reported the casting; Schulz's role has not been disclosed.

Schulz enters an ensemble that already includes Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, John Leguizamo, and Danny Ramirez. Jordan plays Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs and Butler plays James "Sonny" Crockett, the undercover detectives at the center of the story.

The film draws inspiration from the pilot episode and first season of the landmark NBC series, exploring the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami. Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) wrote the screenplay from an earlier draft by Eric Warren Singer. Kosinski is shooting for IMAX, with production set to begin this year ahead of a May 19, 2028 release.

Why this matters

Schulz is one of the sharpest comedic performers of his generation, and Kosinski casting him in a neon-soaked crime picture is a bet on range. Comedians who can do drama are Hollywood's most undervalued asset, and Schulz has been quietly stacking serious credits between the stand-up tours. If he lands this, he's not just the funny guy anymore.
