Johnny Depp is returning to the big screen in a big way.

Paramount Pictures dropped the trailer for "Ebenezer" on October 1, and it shows Depp completely transformed as Ebenezer Scrooge in Ti West's dark new take on "A Christmas Carol." The film hits theaters November 13.

This isn't just another Depp role. It's his first major Hollywood studio release since 2018's "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald." Eight years. After the trial, after the French film "Jeanne du Barry" opened Cannes in 2023, after directing "Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness," this is the comeback.

Ti West ("X," "Pearl," "MaXXXine") is directing, which tells you everything about the tone. The trailer leans into genuine horror: Scrooge's ghosts treated as real nightmare imagery, a sequence showing him buried alive. The tagline says it all: "The name you know, the story you don't."

The cast is stacked. Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley. Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit. Daisy Ridley, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Tramell Tillman, and more.

Depp surprised everyone this summer by showing up in full Scrooge costume at San Diego Comic-Con. A source told People the project "felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" for Depp. "He's back in a character role, which he loves. He really comes to life when he's in those characters, they're in his DNA."

And he's not stopping there. After "Ebenezer," Depp already has "Day Drinker" lined up with Madelyn Cline and Penelope Cruz, hitting theaters March 2027.
