Sony Pictures has promoted Maia Eyre to EVP of Creative Development at Columbia Pictures. She will report to Columbia Pictures President of Production Peter Kang on the Culver City lot, rising from SVP of Creative Development.
Eyre is the executive who brought Anyone but You star Sydney Sweeney and her production company Honey Trap into Sony for a producing deal, announced in June. She is currently shepherding Hollow, a Sleepy Hollow retelling with Sweeney and Belmont Cameli attached to star. She also steered the original Anyone but You, the Sweeney and Glen Powell romantic comedy that grossed $214 million worldwide, and the Jack Black-Paul Rudd comedy Anaconda, which made $135 million worldwide last year.
Originally from Canada, Eyre moved to Los Angeles in 2013 to attend the MFA Producer's Program at UCLA and began her career at Sony after landing an internship at TriStar Pictures.
Key facts:
- Promoted from SVP to EVP of Creative Development, Columbia Pictures
- Reports to President of Production Peter Kang
- Brought Sydney Sweeney and Honey Trap into Sony; shepherding Hollow
- Steered Anyone but You ($214M worldwide) and Anaconda ($135M worldwide)
Why this matters: Pay attention to who's getting promoted, not just who's getting cast. Eyre's track record is a map of where Columbia is placing its bets: star-driven romantic comedies, YA adaptations, and talent-first producing deals. If you're an actor or a rep, the executives with momentum are the ones who can actually say yes, and right now Eyre is one of them.
